What is Cyber Fraud?
The term Cyber fraud or Internet fraud generally refers to any type of fraudulent scheme using the Internet—chat rooms, e-mails, message boards, websites—to solicit victims, conduct fraudulent transactions or transmit the proceeds of fraud to financial institutions or others connected with the scheme.

Below are some of most common types of schemes:

- Phishing: A rapidly increasing and seemingly harmless type of fraud. A target of this scheme might receive an e-mail from a trusted source—the victim’s own bank, for example—and then be steered to a phony site that secretly captures valuable personal information, such as passwords and credit card data.

- Credit card frauds: Most everyone has a credit card and many of us have used them on the Internet or over the phone with various kinds of vendors. The security most of us take for granted may not be so.

- Identity theft:This old breed of fraud has taken a new guise over the Internet. This site covers identity theft in detail beyond just the "cyber" part of it.
